This is a digital mosaic of Viking Orbiter Images of Olympus Mons Volcano, Mars. The outline of Maryland (with Baltimore, D.C. and Prince George's County outlined) is plotted at the same scale. The entire Baltimore Washington Metro area fits in the volcano caldera.
Data (From Hodges and Moore, USGS Prof. Paper 1534, 1994):
Base diameter 800 km
Summit elevation 26 km
Relief 24-26 km
Caldera diameter 65 by 85 km
Caldera depth 2.5 km
Average flank slope 4deg
Inferred age from craters/km 0.06 - 1.0 million years
In comparison, Mauna Loa rises 9 km from the seafloor, had a 2.7 by 6 km summit caldera, and is approximately 120 km across at the base. Subaerial slopes of 3deg to 6deg, with the steepest slope around 8deg.
Image prepared by S. Sakimoto (NASA/Goddard) for the Prince George's County performance-based learning task "Migration to Mars".
