Jan Mayen - Mission #1 of Iceland [05/27/96] Sean Warren's Data Log Slicer Mission included: Barry Coyle, Jim Garvin, and David Rabine Note: Until Barry Coyle arrived in Iceland to re-align the laser transmitter, all measurements were taken with the beam being bounced off the tube in some fashion so that it was still in alignment, but the beam size and shape would be unknownable. All measurements between 05/10/96 and 05/27/96 are suspect. 05/27/96 and beyond was great. Also Note: When not stated, you can assume that the system being run had the following elements: 80Hz, 1slick80.exe, divergent lens, no scanning *******05/27/96************ Iceland Mission #1 - "Jan Mayen" 1,714,000 [96052701.idl] Data On - Ground Calibration 1,722,554 Data Off Ground Calibration at Keflavik: A= 32.25 in, B= 59.125 in, C= 217.102(DME) ft + 3in = 66.25m A + C = 67.07m 1,723,000 [96052702.idl] Data On - Adjusting the alignment for flight, water 1,753,888 Data Off 1,754,000 [96052703.idl] Data on - Climb out over ocean 1,806,494 Data Off NOTE: Having trouble with gating out clouds. NOTE: Laser has melted ribbon cable and cooling teac's in laser are no longer functioning... cannot run laser to keep warm without over heating. If I don't run, it will have no power left for any more data...I am going to run it at 10Hz to keep firing, but not over heating. 2,507,000 [96052719.idl] Data On - 10Hz (1slick10.exe - just made it) Should simulate SLA-02 pretty well since ground speed is only 100m/s... will run entire transit to iceland. 2,528,060 Data Off 2,528,500 Data On Surtsey at high altitude through hole in clouds 2,562,378 Data Off Missed up slope, cold laser. 2,562,500 [96052721.idl] Data On - Surtsey #2 at high altitude 2,590,138 Data Off No misses seen, looks great on replay 2,590,200 [96052722.idl] Data On - Runway pass at approximately 1000 ft 2,621,322 Data Off Double pulsing seen (buildings?) 2,621,500 [96052723.idl] Data On - Ground Calibration after flight 2,630,314 Data Off Many return levels, very long calibration Ground Calibration at Keflavik: A= 37.50 in, B= 65.25 in, C= 196.160(DME) ft + 3in = 59.866m A + C = 60.818m 1
