Here is a close up of the data system. The operator would sit here in
front of this rack and has access to the actual instrument as well. The
screen will display real time information for monitoring the data quality
and instrument performance.
All the items in this rack are off the shelf components, excluding some
minor modifications here and there. The left side of the rack is holding
the Spectra Physics laser control unit. On top of the rack is an oscilliscope
for secondary monitoring of signals throughout the system (start energy,
return amplitude, and any timing pulses used). On the right side of the
rack is the Inertial Guidance Unit controller for operations of the laser
ring gyro. The bottom of the rack contains a standard CAMAC controller with
our receipe for a data system installed. A standard 90 MHz pentium is the
heart of the data system which currently can operate up to 5000 Hz.
