Obsidian dome is the feature in Long Valley California that is featured
in a down looking image in this gallery. This is the combination of all
six passes on the mapping mission and another from an earlier day where
we happened to hit OBS. Color is elevation, and the color table was
chosen to bring out the dome to the best detail. Many interesting
features can be seen in this image, and the roughness of OBS over small
length scales is well illustrated. The outline of the dome is very
obvious, and you can see that we are covering only a small swath near
the center of the dome. OBS was not a target in 1995, but this image
suggests that we should make an effort to map the entire surface next
time we are in the area.
