• Consistency with coupling mechanism:

  • torsional waves, at the ICB westward rotation of cylinder tangential to inner core, consistent with the inner core eastward differential rotation;
  • gravitational torque of the mantle on the inner core = restoring torque, not consistent with differential rotation except if allowing the inner shape to adjust as it rotates to the gravitational potential.
