Core convection
I. thermal convection
- crystallisation of iron at ICB -> releases :
- - latent heat
- - light constituents
- additional thermal convection (less important) -> heat released due to :
- - radioactive decay
- - primordial heat
- note :
this thermal convection could be controled by the thermally heterogeneous
mantle
II. the compositional convection is due to the crystallisation of iron for
forming the inner core and release of lign element in liquid core. It is thought to be the most important
III.the main flow is usually when core flow is modeled, outside of the axially aligned
cylinder tangent to inner core but sometimes in case of geodynamomodel, the flow can also be
important inside the tangent cylinder
IV. possibly the outer layers of liquid core could be stably stratified
