This section describes the processing that was undertaken to produce a clean observatory annual means dataset for the years 1960 - 1985 to overlap POGO and Magsat lifetimes. This dataset was created to be included in the Solar Quiet modeling effort of Terry Sabaka (HSTX), Nils Olsen (Denmark), Bob Langel (NASA), and Joy Conrad (HSTX) in February 1996. The files referenced in this section can be found on CD: SQOBS001 in the Geomagnetics library at the Goddard Space Flight Center.
The original observatory annual means were obtained from the CD-ROM supplied by the National Geophysical Data Center entitled ``Solar Variability Affecting Earth 05/01". Years were selected from 1960-1985. The original data is in:

This file was converted to newfit binary with station breaks and standard names added with:
/source/updatngd.f
Computed information was added based on the gsfcsqM95 model. The file was then edited with the Widget Data Analysis Tool along with the hourly data. The only change made was to add another station break (V) to VYSOKAY DUB for 1980. The final annual means file is:

This file was then reformatted to be used in the Sq modeling project (Section 3.6) and copied to file obsan.iee on SQOBS002.
